About Castelion

Castelion is bringing a new approach to defense development and production: one that focuses on short, iterative design cycles, rapid testing in development, and modern commercial manufacturing strategies for production at scale. We’re designing, building, and testing next generation long range strike weapons systems to give America and its Allies a definitive edge and deter future conflicts.

Senior Radar Test Engineer

Castelion is seeking a high performing Senior Radar Test engineer to lead lab and captive flight test of radar seekers. In this role you will be responsible for standing up our lab facility (Allen, TX), writing code (Python) to automate lab equipment, operation/automation of our near field data collection system, planning/execution of flight testing, incorporation of non-tactical INS system, and supporting seekers involved in missile test shots. This role will coordinate closely with Castelion’s algorithm development team to collect the data they need to meet the company’s objectives. A successful candidate will have significant experience field testing prototype radars in a fast-paced, rapid iteration environment.

Responsibilities

  • Radar Lab Development. Take ownership of standing up a lab to bring up, checkout, test, and verify radar seekers. This includes the necessary test equipment, tools, safety equipment, power, furniture, etc. Expect at least two chambers to be part of this setup, one near-field and one far-field. Responsibilities also include Python code to automate test equipment functions.

  • Captive Flight Test Planning. This includes site selection, identifying targets of opportunity, FCC transmission license, aircraft selection, INS selection, determining how to cue the radar, development of test plans, coordination of cooperative test assets, etc.

  • Captive Flight Test Execution. Install and operate the radar during test. Become proficient in basic troubleshooting and quick-look tools. Be able to identify when the radar is collecting useful data and when it isn’t. Communicate overall status of the collection to leadership quickly after collection ends.

  • Lead Team in Fast-Paced Environment. Castelion prioritizes a high frequency test cadence over large, capstone demonstrations. As the test lead, you will be responsible for creating the ecosystem that enables this cadence

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in test of RF systems that includes at least 1 radar
  • Basic knowledge of radar concepts & terminology
  • Basic knowledge of INS systems
  • Experience as a test director or similar role

Leadership Qualities

Bias to Action and Creative Problem Solving. Desire and experience questioning assumptions in ways that lead to break through ideas that are ultimately implemented. Successfully bring in applicable processes/concepts/materials from other industries to achieve efficiency gains. Ability to personally resolve minor issues in development without requiring significant support.

High Commitment, High Initiative. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Castelion’s mission and consistently look for ways to contribute to the company’s technical goals and prevent hardware blockers. Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere. Strong sense of accountability and integrity.

Clear Communicator. Proactively communicates blockers. Trusted in previous roles to be voice of company with regulators, suppliers, gate keepers and customers. Capable of tactfully managing relationships with stakeholders to achieve company-desired outcomes without compromising relationships. Emails, IMs and verbal interactions are logical, drive clarity, and detailed enough to eliminate ambiguity.

All employees are granted long-term stock incentives as part of their employment as Castelion. All employees receive access to comprehensive medial, vision, and dental insurance, and the company offers three weeks of paid time off per year.
